- Infections may be defeated by the use of Antibiotics, agents that can kill the bacteria that cause infections. In recent years, very powerful infections known as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA have wreaked havoc in hospitals around the world, as they are caused by bacteria that have become resistant to multiple drugs that had previously been used to combat them.
