Glorious Revolution

Template:StubThe Glorious Revolution or Bloodless Revolt, also known as the Revolution of 1688 was a bloodless revolution that took place in England which replaced the Catholic King of England, James II with the Anglican, William of Orange, and his wife Mary who was James' daughter. Despite the often used name there was some fighting and loss of life, though none of it took place in England itself. It was arguably the last ever successful invasion of England. The 'revolution' prevented Roman Catholocism from becoming the state religion of England, as it had been until the reign of Henry VIII.

The cause of the overthrow was a combination of two battles; one was a battle between Protestantism and Catholocism, the other between the fledgling democracy of Parliament and the 'Divine Right' of the King. James' was unpopular with many politicians due to his Catholocism. However attempts to exclude him from becoming King had been unsuccessful.
