Wings are appendages present in birds or insects whose primary purpose is to allow flight. Through quick flapping of the wings, it is possible to move through the air. Some creatures require constant flapping while others, such as eagles, can soar. There are some birds with wings such as ostriches or emus that are unable to fly.

Modern technology has created wings on airplanes to allow for motorized flight. For these vehicles, there is no flapping. While wings are not the mechanisms that allow flight to occur, they are important for stabilization.
