Gorgo was a Queen Consort of the Kingdom of Sparta. She was the wife of King Leonidas and, as a young girl (her father, Leonidas's half-brother was King before him) she began to become active in politics. She weileded great power and influence over her husband, father, and son (all kings) and was active in affairs of state during war. It was due to Gorgo that Greece recieved the warning Persia was to attack them, and she was key in getting political support for the previous battles.
