Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman is the atheistic author of His Dark Materials, a trilogy of fantasy novels for young adults where the ultimate victory is killing the Judeo-Christian God. He has also written several other successful books, none of which have caused any controversy. He has won awards for his writing.

Certain Christian groups brand his books subversively anti-religious. Pullman himself has stated that the books are not anti-religious and that he has a problem with religious organizations when they have political power. Defenders point to the facts that the books are only stories, no one is forced to read them, and they in fact contain morals like the ones supported by religions.
