4.Religious. The pilgrims were Sepratists, they wanted total isolation from the Chruch of England so they could have thier own new church on the new continent. The Puritans wanted to cleanse the Church of England from its doctrinal inconsistencies from the inside out, hoping a Protestant America would be more capable of purifying Protestant England.
