Trans-isomer unsaturated fat, more commonly known as trans fat, is a fat present in several popular foods. They have been shown to be slightly more unhealthy than saturated fat. Liberals have latched onto the idea that trans fats are the cause of the obesity epidemic in the United States, leading to several anti-business bans on trans fast in places such as New York City, Boston and the state of California[1]. These bans absolve the blame from the consumer who chooses to eat a double cheeseburger with extra bacon and fries instead of a sensible sandwich and pickle. The burden is then put on struggling restaurants and chefs have been left wondering "how the trans fat ban will affect the bottom line".[2] Liberals wrongly believe that banning access to trans fats will stop obesity, rather than a change in the mindset of the obese to stop them from eating and get them to exercise. They should look to the wise policy of President George H. W. Bush, who started the Presidential Physical Fitness program with Arnold Schwarzenegger to get people active and fit. Even Michael Phelps can eat plenty of trans fats in his diet because he has the sense to exercise.
