The Coptic Church is one of the oldest denominations of Christianity, originating in Alexandria, Egypt in the 1st century. [1] Although most of Egypt presently follows Islam, a remnant of the Coptic Church persists to this day in Egypt. Theologically, the church resembles the Eastern Orthodox Church.
