Gaffe

A gaffe is a mistake or error made in a social situation, particularly one that causes embarrassment to the one making the error.
During the 2008 Presidential Election, liberals in the media repeatedly referred to Joe Biden's lies as "gaffes", in order to downplay their deceitful nature.[1]
