Female genital mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a practice common in certain parts of the world, especially where traditionalist and fundamentalist faiths reign. There are many types of FGM, but most share the common characteristics of mutilation or removal of the clitoris. This is sometimes referred to as "female circumcision".
It is practised especially in parts of Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa, usually when the girl is young or adolescent, often forcibly and against their wishes. There are many potential genito-urinary complications, including decreased sexual pleasure, infection, increase in danger of childbirth and urinary incontinence.
