Onanism

Onanism is a sin which was committed by Onan, who was punished by God for committing it. See Genesis 38:7-10. The exact sin is subject to dispute. A popular intrepretation is that Onanism is attempting sexual intercourse without permitting reproduction, an act considered sinful by the Roman Catholic Church. The traditional Jewish view suggests the sin may have been in disobeying an order from God, or even the lack of putting the family needs before his own.
