The West Wing (1999 - 2006) was a TV show depicting the term of U.S. Democratic President Josiah Bartlett (played by Martin Sheen), and the frequent political realities of a party not holding majorities in Congress, despite holding the presidency.

It is sometimes regarded as one of the best TV dramas of modern times, sharing a pedestal with shows like Lost and The Sopranos. It was widely hailed by political scientists and was a favorite of critics.[Citation Needed]
