Edwin Booth (1833-1893) was the preeminent actor of the 1800s in the United States.
In 1919, a statue of Booth was unveiled in Gramercy Park in New York City, the first statue of an actor to be erected in New York.[1] In 1926, a second statue of him was installed: a bust in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans, one of only 102 Americans to be given that honor. The Hall of Fame describes him as the "Most popular American dramatic actor of mid-19th century. Excelled in Shakespearean tragedies. Founder of the Players Club in New York City."
He was the brother of John Wilkes Booth.
