Democratic-Republican Party

The Democratic-Republican Party was one of the first eight American political parties. They opposed strong central government. Noteable Democratic-Republicans were Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. They may also be referred to as Jeffersonian Democrats, Jeffersonian Republicans, or Jeffersonian Democratic-Republicans, as this distinguishes them from the modern Demopublican Party and Republicrat Party.
