L S Lowry

Laurence Stephen Lowry (L S Lowry) (1887-1976) was an artist born in Stretford, Lancashire, north-west England. Although classically trained, his best known works are painted in a niaive style, depicting urban life in industrial Lancashire in the early twentieth century. Lowry also painted a large number of works in and around Sunderland.
