Landfill

Landfills are organized waste-disposal facilities in which layers of garbage are dumped, often with layers of soil in between, in an effort to encourage decomposition of organic waste.
Landfills are often complained about, among other reasons because they do not facilitate the decomposition of waste. Composting and recycling are alternatives to landfill dumping.
