Crossbow

The crossbow was a weapon first invented in China, but most famous from Europe. Peasants could be quickly trained to use a crossbow, making it far cheaper to raise new armies than if using bows. The Crusaders used many crossbows when trying to free the Holy Lands from the Muslims. Crossbows were very effective, and could penetrate the armor of a knight.
