The Basque country (Basque: Euskadi; Spanish: País Vasco) is an autonomous region in northern Spain, containing the regions Álava, Vizcaya, and Guipúzcoa. The term Euskal Herria is used by Basque nationalists to refer to a wider Basque region (not all of which falls under the jurisdiction of the Spanish autonomous community) and includes part of south-western France and the Spanish region of Navarra.
The terrorist group ETA has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in an effort to obtain an independent Basque country.
