Ejection seat

An ejection seat is a cockpit seat in an aircraft which can be fired clear of the aircraft with a small rocket charge if necessary, carrying the pilot. At a certain height, the seat will fall away from the pilot and a parachute will deploy. They are used only in military aircraft and test planes. Ejection seats first came into use in the Korean War, in aircraft like the F-86 Sabre, as the high speeds of jets made it impossible to simply jump with a parachute.
