Celt

The Celts were a people who lived in Europe at the time of the Roman Empire. Originally Celts were in many places including modern France, modern Spain and the whole of the British Isles. Today Celtic populations still survive. Important places in Mainland Europe where there are Celtic populations are Britany (Bretagne) in France and the Basque region which straddles the border between France and Spain. In the British Isles Major Celtic populations exist in Ireland (especially southern Ireland), Wales, Scotland and the Peninsula in the West of England where there are the counties of Devon and Cornwall. After the Roman Empire England was invaded successively by Anglo Saxons, Vikings, and Normans. Outside Western England the English people are no longer Celtic.
