First Indochina War

The First Indochina War (c. December 1946 - August 1, 1954) was a war fought in the French colony of French Indochina, resulting in a Viet Minh victory. The French employed LE troops almost exclusively. The First Indochina War culminated in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, which resulted in a Viet Minh victory, largely due to direct aid from Red China.
Not long after the French were expelled, the Second Indochina War began (see Vietnam War).
