Usenet

Usenet was a popular predecessor for online communication on the internet, whereby one user could post a comment seen by all internet visitors, who could then post comments in reply. It facilitated communications among groups in a public manner.
In some respects, Usenet was a primitive predecessor to wikis that are now more popular.
