A trowel is a small tool used in a variety of small-scale activities.

The normal trowel (used for gardening) has a curved, scooped blade that is purposely intended to disturb and remove earth. Digging, planting, and weeding are common examples of use.

A pointed trowel (also known as a bricklayer's trowel) has a flat blade and ends at a point, which is useful for construction tasks, such as applying mortar and concrete. The pointed trowel is commonly used as an excavation tool by archaeologists.

The trowel is regarded as an important symbol to the organization of Freemasons.
