Chlorine is in Group 7 of the periodic table, making it a halogen along with such elements as bromine or iodine. It has an atomic number of 17.
Chlorine is most commonly used to clean swimming pools; however, some people may have allergic reactions to the chlorine and hence may not be able to use the pool. Chlorine can also be used to make table salt; hydrochloric acid is reacted with sodium hydroxide to form NaCl.
