Pruning is the act of cutting, trimming, or removing extra or unnecessary growth from plants. The purpose is for fruit and flower production, visually appealing decoration, limited space, removing diseased portions, or training a bush to become a tree. In either case, it encourages plant health.

A prune is a dried plum, generally. However, some varities of plum are not called "prunes" when dried but simply "dried plums." Prunes are high in fiber and known as being a natural laxative. They also contain beneficial antioxidants.[1]
