Georges Mathieu

Georges Mathieu (1921 - ) is a French painter. He gained an international reputation in the 1950âs in the style of Lyrical Abstraction since his expositions in US and Japan and especially after the 1963 Grande Rétrospective au Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
His large paintings are created very rapidly and impulsively. Despite his unconventional technique, he considers himself a historical painter working with abstract subject matter. [1]
Mathieu's works are at: the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the J. Paul Getty Museum.
