A fluoroscope is a machine that uses x-rays and a fluorescent screen to display images in real-time. In modern machines, these systems are highly integrated with the digital healthcare infrastructure.
This process can be used for security, luggage scanning at airports, examination of packages in mail rooms, bomb squad, in addition to medical /veterinarian use.
Types of Fluoroscopes
- Mobile C-arms are surgical imaging devices most associated with Orthopedics.
- Mini C-arms are smaller version imaging for use with extremity imaging; hands, feet.
- Radiographic/Fluoroscopy system, called R/F, consists of a table, an overhead x-ray source, a wall bucky for chest X-ray, a generator and operators console.
- Whole body scanner, typical used to image miners as they leave diamond mines. Also, it is found in some health facilities.
A Direct Digital Radiographic or DDR, is a 21st century advancement in medicine. Fluoroscopy images are captured, in real-time, by flat panels constructed out of amorphous silicon, amorphous or crystalline selenium or miniature CCD and stored by personal computer workstation.
