Characteristic polynomial

The characteristic polynomial of a square matrix <math>A</math> is given by,
- <math>f(\lambda) = \det(A-\lambda I)</math>
where <math>I</math> is the identity matrix. The roots of this polynomial are the eigenvalues of the matrix.
