Sedition Act

A "Sedition Act" is a law that criminalizes activity seen by a government as subversive (sedition). These acts almost always infringe on human rights and can be an early sign of governmental tyranny. By silencing discontent, the government gains carte blanche to act as it pleases, without fear of revolt.

In the United States, there have been two Sedition Acts.
