The precession of the equinoxes describes an astronomical phenemoneon whereby the earth appears to wobble on its axis relative to the fixed stars. This wobble is very slow taking nearly 30,000 years to complete. The result of this is that at the spring equinox the earth gradually moves through all the signs of the zodiac backwards. This is the origin of the Age of Aquarius.
