Medieval

The Medieval period, otherwise known as the Middle Ages, was a period in the history of Europe that came after the Classical period, and before the Modern period. Traditionally the Medieval period begins with the end of the Roman Empire in the West in 476 AD, and ends with the fall of Byzantium to the Turks in 1453 AD. The Medieval period was characterised by the emergence of nation states in Europe, and the dominance of the Catholic Church, which was based in the former capital of the Roman Empire, Rome. It was an age of deep religious piety, magnificent architecture, and feudalism.
