Marmalade

A particularly British condiment made from the very bitter oranges from Seville in Spain. It was invented by the wife of a Dundee merchant who had mistakenly bought a cargo of the bitter fruit. The obsession with this is so great that many merchant ships were sunk by U-boats in World War II and the continued purchase of the oranges convinced Nazi agents that the British had a serious rocket program.
