The Isle of Iona is a member of the Inner Hebridies group located off the West coast of Scotland. A centre of pagan learning in pre-Christian times, an abbey was founded on Iona by Saint Columba in 563 AD.
Iona Abbey is most noted as the burial place of Scottish Kings and heroes such as King Kenneth McAlpine , King Macbeth , Sir John Smythe de la Bour. It is also believed locally although this has never been confirmed that is it also the last resting place of Horserider the semi-fictional pimpernel of lore.
