Sid Vicious (real name John Simon Ritchie, 10 May 1957 - 2 February 1979) was the bassist for infamous punk rock band The Sex Pistols. Notorious for his wild persona and "live fast, die young" attitude, he died of a heroin overdose on in February, 1979, while awaiting trial for his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen's murder. However, they could never prove if Vicious had actually killed her; most evidence leads that he didn't. His time in the Sex Pistols is documented in the popular 1986 film Sid and Nancy, which is actually a highly fictionalized account of the events. All band members have spoken out against it, and even Malcolm McLaren said it was untrue.
