Very few noteworthy scientists or mathematicians were or are female. The reasons for this are complex.

Here are a few:

  • Marie Sklodowska Curie (physicist/chemist)
  • Lise Meitner (physicist)
  • Emma Noether (mathematician)
  • Sophie Germain (mathematician)
  • Ida Noddack (physicist)
  • Jocelyn Bell (astronomer)
