Verizon Communications is the second largest telephone company in the United States, following AT&T. It was formed in 2000 with the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE Corporation. It offers traditional landline telephone service, DSL, and a fiber to premises service known as FiOS, which carries phone, internet, and cable television services. The company is currently headquartered in New York, New York. Verizon received a taxpayer bailout in 2008-09.[1]
