User talk:Rsmitchell A sentiment is a mental feeling, attitude, opinion or emotion. So "to express one's sentiments" is to say how one really feels about something. It may also have more distinct connotations so that in music, art and literature it is the expression of delicate and sensitive feeling. However, it may also imply thoughts or attitudes that are based mainly on emotion rather than logic and reason.
