David Gunn
David Gunn was an American physician who was murdered by a terrorist on March 10, 1993 in Pensacola, Florida.
Education
David Gunn recieved his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. His residence brought him back to Nashville where he distinguished himself by becoming the chief resident at his hosptial. [1]
Practice
Gunn became a specialist physician during his time in Nashville. When he completed his residency, he realized that many small rural communities lacked reliable specialist services. To serve the public better, he dedicated himself to a roaming rural practice, traveling over 1000 miles per week. Dr. Gunn faithfully served small town patients in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.[2]
Assassination
On March 10, 2003, David Gun was shot in the back three times at point blank range by a terrorist[3]assassin in Pensacola Florida. The murderer was then 31 year old Micheal Griffin, a religious fundamentalist[4] . At trial, Griffin claimed to have been "brainwashed" by the leader of his terrorist cell[5]; however, the jury returned a verdict of guilty. Griffin was scentenced to life inmprisonment for first degree murder and is currently serving a life sentence in Blackwater River Correctional facility. [6]
