Slovenia is an Alpine nation that was once part of Yugoslavia.
Its war of independence was the briefest of the constituent republics of Yugoslavia, lasting just eleven days in 1991. Since then it has joined the EU and in 2007 adopted the Euro.
Its language, Slovenian, is closely related to Serbo-Croat.
