Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak (June 10, 1928-May 8, 2012) was a gay Jewish[1] author from Brooklyn best known for writing In the Night Kitchen (1970), an illustrated children's story which showed a nude boy's penis and flowing milk.
Sendak died on May 8, 2012 from a massive stroke, four years after publicly announced that he was a homosexual. He said that he hid this fact for fear that it would hurt his career as a children's books author.[2]
