Accuracy measures how close a measurement is to the true value. This is in contrast to precision, which is a measure of how reliably the data match each other. It is possible to be accurate without being precise, and vice versa. The latter case (precision without accuracy) is particularly troublesome because it can be hard to detect in scientific field work.
