The Akkadian Empire 2360-2180 B.C. was situated in Sumeria in the Fertile Crescent in the lower Mesopotamia and north of the Sumer River.[1] King Sargon the Great created the empire by overrunning the Kish.[1] An area that had few natural defenses, it lacked the long lasting nature of, say, the kingdom of Egypt during that same time period.[1]
