According to the National Institutes of Health, autoimmune lymphoproliferative sydrome is "a human disease caused by failure of lymphocytes to die once they have finished doing their job. As a result, the spleen and lymph nodes grow large, and immune cells may attack the body's own tissues, a condition known as autoimmunity."[1]
