A Bachelor of Arts (Artium Baccalaureus) degree is one of the more common undergraduate degrees awarded to a student who completes a four-year course of study in the liberal arts or social sciences.

Some typical courses of study include,

  1. Business
  2. Economics
  3. Foreign Language (French, German, Spanish, etc.)
  4. History
  5. Linguistics
  6. Music (although this course of study often concludes in a Bachelor of Music, in Performance)
  7. Political Science
  8. Sociology

Often, receiving a Bachelor of Arts constitutes the receipt of an "ultimate degree" - that is, the last degree received before entering the workforce. However, since the job market has become more competitive, and the American populace more and more educated on a whole, more American students seek professional degrees or master's degrees to ensure that they remain competitive in the workforce.
