Black Robe is a novel, written by Brian Moore, first published in 1985. The novel is set in New France during the 17th Century and follows a Jesuit priest, Father Laforgue, as he travels with a group of Algonkian to a distant mission among the Huron Indians. Along the way he struggles with his faith and his relationships with the natives.[1]

The book is partially based on letters written by Jesuits traveling through the area in the time period. In 1991, the book was adapted into a movie by the same name.[2]
