The Carthusian Order is a Christian religious order which was established in 1086 by Saint Bruno and continues to the present day. The order requires silence and vegetarianism, as well as giving up all of one's possessions.

The first Carthusian monastery in England was found by Henry II as penance for the murder of Thomas Becket.
