Christina Victoria Grimmie (March 12, 1994 – June 11, 2016) was an American singer, songwriter, and one-time actress at first known for her covers of songs on YouTube, and later her participation on music reality television show The Voice.

YouTube success

On YouTube, Christina Grimmie was shown to have had interests ranging from singing, playing video games like Legend of Zelda, League of Legends, and Super Smash Bros., and spending time with her family.[1] She was undaunted to openly admit she was a Christian.

After watching videos of people doing covers of songs on YouTube back in 2009, Christina's friend Lauren suggested that Christina try the same.[2] Her mother Tina Grimmie initially was uncomfortable to this move for the fear of her daughter being the target of online predators. Ultimately this proved to be prophetic, albeit out of context. When Christina's YouTube channel exploded with views and positive comments, Selena Gomez's parents found out and offered for Christina opportunities to further her career.

Beyond YouTube

Christina Grimmie was a contestant on The Voice in 2014, taking 3rd place, and received offers to sign with various record companies. She was signed with Island Records until they dropped her when she declined to "undress to impress".[3] Seeing how Miley Cyrus turned out, she made a wise decision.

Grimmie has released two EPs, Find Me (2011) and Side A (2016), and one full-length album, With Love (2013).

Death

On June 10, 2016, Christina Grimmie announced that she was going to be at a meet and greet to meet fans (or "frands" as she prefers to call them) at The Live Plaza in Orlando, Florida. Unfortunately, she was murdered by a deranged fan at The Live Plaza in Orlando, Florida, not long before the shooting spree at a homosexual nightclub.

Posthumous releases

In August–September 2016, Grimmie's family uploaded a series of music videos for her Side A EP, which she filmed before she died.[4]

Grimmie appeared in the film The Matchbreaker, released on October 7, 2016.

Her single "Invisible" was released on February 17, 2017 on the Republic Records label.
