Cristiano Ronaldo, complete name Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, is a Portuguese soccer player who plays for Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga. He is currently regarded as one of the best players in the world, and was voted world player of the year in 2008. During the 2007-08 season, while playing for Manchester United he collected numerous awards for his skill, including the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Players' and Fans' Player of the Year (for the second consecutive year),[1] and the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year[2] in the UK. He was also top scorer in both the UEFA Champions' League[3] and EPL,[4] with a total of 42 goals in all competitions for the season.

In the summer of 2009, he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid, for a fee of £80 million, the highest ever payed for a player.[5]

While his first name Cristiano is common among devout Christian families, his second name, Ronaldo, is in honor of Ronald Reagan, who is admired by Conservatives in Europe too.
