David Thomas.

David Thomas is a National Football League tight end for the New England Patriots. He was born on July 5, 1983. Thomas is 6-3 and weighs 248 pounds. He wears number 86 with the Patriots.

College Football Career

From 2002 through 2005 David Thomas attended the University of Texas and played tight end for the Texas Longhorns. Thomas never missed a game with the Longhorns and started 38 games out of the 51 he played in his time there.... Although he was know as one of the best blocking tight ends in college football he was also one of it's most prolific receivers as well. In his four years playing for the Longhorns, Thomas broke the University of Texas records for receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns by a Longhorn tight end. In his senior season he had 50 receptions for 613 yards and 5 touchdowns. In his last game of his college career, the 2005 Rose Bowl, Thomas was the number one target of Texas quarterback Vince Young. In the game (one of the most climactic in college football history) Thomas had 10 receptions for 88 yards. In part due to his key catches Texas won the game by the score of 41 to 38 and became the 2005 BCS National Champions. His total statics from his playing time with Texas amounted to 98 receptions for 1,367 yards and 15 touchdowns.

NFL Career

On April 24, 2006, David Thomas was picked by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. In his rookie (2006) season with the Patriots he played in 15 games and started 3. His first NFL official reception came vs the New York Jets in the second week of the regular season.... His best performance as a rookie came in week 15 when the Patriots clinched a forth straight AFC East division title. In the game he caught 5 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown (on 22 yard driving catch) and also made a key block on a touchdown run in the forth quarter by fellow Patriots rookie Laurence Maroney. Thomas ended the 2006 regular season with 11 receptions for 159 yards and 1 touchdown. In the 2006 postseason Divisional playoff game vs the San Deigo Chargers Thomas recovered a fumbled punt by Charger returner Eric Parker.

While participating in the Patriots 2007 offseason training program Thomas broke his foot. The timetable for his return or the extent of the injury are not know right now.
