Anti-Christian?
No, the party that George Orwell was probably thinking of that was similar was the Humanist religion. This is yet another example of the propaganda technique of transfer. - The enemy of Big Brother is Emmanuel Goldstein who is said to lead The Brotherhood that has been labeled as the enemy of the party. May not even exist for only the reason to give members of The Party someone to hate and fear. These may have been a tongue in cheek referral to Christianity and Judaism. On the contrary, Christians have an unquestioning faith only because of questioning originally. The Bible calls "noble" those who question what it says so long as they do so with an open mind and a desire to see "whether those things were so": "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." (Acts 17:11)
We are called to believe in God, but that does not mean without evidence. Otherwise, why would Jesus have showed His wounds to the disciples and called on them to "be not faithless, but believing"? (John 20:7) Why would Paul have debated with pagan philosophers, quoting their own poets, if reason was outlawed in Christianity? (Acts 17:28) The premise that Christians have an unquestioning faith itself seems based on a false premise. --Jzyehoshua 19:02, 20 July 2012 (EDT)
1984 on religion
The society in 1984 didn't have religion, not even the proles, as Winston notes:For that matter, even religious worship would have been permitted if the proles had shown any sign of needing or wanting it.

Plus two other mentions in Part 3. For me, the scariest thing about Big Brother is controlling the past, "he who controls the past controls the future", I don't think any religion or group has ever been even remotely successful. Thank God.
